Senate Moves Forward With Budget Resolution

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the chair of the Senate Budget Committee, is set to brief Senate Republicans on Wednesday on a budget resolution to fulfill President Donald Trump’s main objectives despite House Republicans remaining in a stalemate over how to proceed.

Graham and his fellow Senate Republicans hope to pass a budget reconciliation bill that targets the border, expand domestic energy through oil and gas drilling and a large increase in defense spending. The package would not include language that would extend the 2017 tax cuts set to expire, which is expected to be included in a later budget reconciliation bill.

Senate GOP Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., told reporters that House Republicans are “not able to move at the level we’d like them to move” at the moment. “We do have a bill ready to go here and Sen. Graham is going to be briefing the conference on that tomorrow at lunch.”
